Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is a tricky yet another one of the most common interview questions. Here the interviewer wants to basically judge you on how career-driven you are and whether your goals are realistic or not. What makes this question tricky over others is that it’s a hypothetical question. So, my friends, you have to be well prepared so as to convey your practical aspirations and achievable goals in a convincing manner without sounding hollow. You have to be very attentive while answering this question. No one wants to hire a person who doesn’t have plans to stay long in their company. Your future aspirations shouldn’t impact………….. At the same time, you need to have some quantifiable goals and a definite plan to achieve them.
What answers to be avoided?
- I don’t know.
- Will be CEO or your boss.
- I have no 5-years plan.
- Don’t try to be funny.
- Will join some other firm or go for higher studies.
How to answer this question
- Tell your aspirations along with your journey
- See the role and job description beforehand
- Give a practical rationale to support your vision.
